An online platform that for the first time in the world shows the construction emissions on project level

Byggutsläppslistan (Embodied Carbon Declared) is a new online platform, created for ACAN Sweden that presents the CO2-eq emissions from new construction at the project level.

The site displays declared emissions associated with the cradle-to-site (A1-5) stages of Swedish construction projects sorted by project, municipality, and developer. The data published is sourced from the Swedish National Board of Housing, Building and Planning (Boverket) and is based on the climate declarations that developers are required by law to make for new construction, since January 1, 2022.

The construction and real estate sector accounted for 22% of Sweden's greenhouse gas emissions in 2021. 22% of this, in turn, came from new construction, and the emissions are increasing. Globally construction generates 11% of the climate emissions.

The purpose of Byggutsläppslistan is to improve collective awareness of the construction industry’s impact and thereby accelerate the transition toward climate neutrality. The comprehensive transformation that is needed to reach national and international climate goals is a complex issue. We hope that Byggutsläppslistan lifts this topic to the forefront of discourse both within and beyond the industry.

At the moment the declared construction emissions from 1139 projects, 126 municipalities and 442 developers in Sweden are published on the website. New projects are continuously added.
